Je hersenen liegen je constant voor. Your brain is constantly lying to you.

Ik heb eens gehoord dat de neuronen in het zenuwstelsel van sommige dieren zo traag signalen uit de omgeving opnemen, dat zo’n dier een heel snelle beweging helemaal niet eens opmerkt. Als dat dier naar iets zou zitten kijken dat je heel snel voor zijn neus wegpakt, zou hij (als het kon denken) het idee hebben dat er getoverd werd. Want het dier zou dat waar het nou net lekker naar zat te kijken voor zijn ogen in het niets zien verdwijnen. Het dier zou de snel bewegende hand niet kunnen registreren.

I once heard that the neurones in the nerve systems of some animals receive signals from the surroundings so slowly that such an animal never registers a fast movement. If that animal sits and watches a thing that is quickly pulled away, the beast (if it were able to think) might get the idea that there was magic going on. The animal would see the thing disappear into the void right before its eyes because it would not be able to register the swift hand movement.
